Paykend is the site of an ancient trading town 60 km southwest of Bukhara in Qorako'l district. Sand-buried walls, a citadel and caravanserai foundations line the desert, with a small museum beside them. From the mound you see the surrounding desert and the dry channels of the Zarafshan delta.
